Professional Treatment Component/ Sober Living

Using the “10 Steps to Recovery Model,” the Peer Mentor Coordinators (PMC’s) contact potential clients during a focus group process which describes the WHM program and the relationship with North County and San Diego treatment programs and sober living facilities. At this time, the PMC’s stress the importance of residential treatment, that from WHM’s experience, outcomes in long term sobriety are greatly enhanced for those who choose to enter a program immediately upon release. Over the years, Welcome Home has worked very hard to establish relationships with residential treatment facilities. WHM’s largest hurdle, working closely with incarcerated women was to have a safe place for them to go upon release from custody. Contact with the client was always positive during incarceration and then when they would get out, they would begin to destabilize with no safe place to lay their heads. For this reason, WHM developed close working relationships with many San Diego County treatment programs. These relationships work well for both the programs and the WHM participants. Contractual agreement, developed with the programs and WHM, parties agree that WHM will provide services to all the clients in these programs in trade for guaranteed pre- arranged bed space. WHM Peer Coordinators have the privilege of effecting our partner programs’ intake and assessment packets during incarceration, and it is a favorable situation for both. The programs are getting committed women, in the action stage of the Stages of Change model and WHM has the benefit of knowing that these committed women will have a safe environment to parole to. Welcome Home continues to provide intensive services to our clients during their treatment episode, making it a less stressful transition for staff at the programs and the client herself. In order to intensify these services WHM proposes to hire a Behavioral Health Counselor to monitor our client’s behavioral health status, medication compliance and outcomes in the areas of recidivism, relapse, education and employment, social connectedness with the recovery community and Welcome Home, and stability in housing. The organizations that WHM currently have contractual agreements with are as follows:

The other programs listed below are programs with whom WHM has established relationships and who take our clients on a more limited basis.

Law Enforcement, Parole, Probation, Public Defenders and the Courts

WHM collaborates closely with Law Enforcement, Parole, Probation, Public Defenders and the Courts through client referrals from the counseling offices, and services information disseminated by the deputies to the inmate population. In addition, WHM works closely with the California Department of Corrections (CDCR)-California Institute for Women (CIW), offering monthly focus group to offer services to women who will parole to the San Diego area. The San Diego Court system collaborates with WHM by releasing clients into the custody of staff for transportation to treatment facilities. Support letters written by WHM are taken in to account for clients in child custody cases, homeless court appearances and in other legal matters.
